Volunteering - it is the original model that drove the creation of MCC Housing more than two decades ago and is a tradition we follow as a society today. In 1984 a small group of dedicated volunteers wanted to address the growing issue of homelessness in BC. Today the society still operates with a 'volunteer mindset' and board members, staff and tenants, as well as others in the community, contribute their time and talents as we create healthy community together.
In our downtown buildings, tenants volunteer to run the libraries and More Than A Store, they clean elevators and hallways, they keep the gardens growing fresh and beautiful.
In our family communities, adults and children help keep gardens pretty, sidewalks clean, grass watered and courtyards swept. They want to see their homes taken care of and they participate to make this happen. Our on site managers model care and commitment and continually lead by example.
We also enjoy countless hours offered by college and high school students and youth groups. They come for days of painting, raking and power washing and are always encouraged to spend time with tenants. The tenants are, after all, the reason we do what we do everyday.
